CLOTHING THE GAP

Clothing The Gap is a fresh and dynamic fashion label managed by health professionals that celebrates Indigenous Australians and their culture. The words "Closing the Gap" is an Australian Government health initiative to help close the life expectancy gap between Indigenous Australians and non-Indigenous Australians. Our collaboration with this brand aims to produce scrubs with meanings and encourage the right values to everyone. This collaboration will cost $15,000, they can also provide special embroidery on each scrub at an extra cost for individuals who request. We aspire to influence and unite people through this collaboration and so that Indigenous Australians and communities can thrive.

YARN

Yarn is an online marketplace offering a large variety of Indigenous designed products including luxury fashion, streetwear, accessories, outdoor apparel and homewares. Our collaboration with them is to support Indigenous artists and communities by featuring their unique Indigenous prints in our scrubs, and to spread appreciation of First Nations art and culture with a broad Australian audience. The cost for these designs will vary depending on the complexity on each piece, however they will all be ranged at an affordable price point that's suited for Kmart's target customers.

Justification Blog

As a team, we chose to form a collaboration with Smiling Mind as we believe this organisation aligns with our collection and that healthcare workers will easily be able to connect and empathise with their core message. Placing a barcode on the swing tags was chosen as consumers will be able to investigate their app in their own time from the comfort of their own home, rather than a busy store.  Our collaboration with Clothing the Gap was chosen to provide embroidery to tie in with our Indigenous Australian focus, as well as providing needed awareness on Indigenous Australians' shorter life expectancy. Finally, our collaboration with Yarn was chosen as we believe it is important to showcase Indigenous Australian artwork created by First Nations artists on our garments. We believe our collaborations appropriately link to our mission and overall concept.
